Today marked a significant milestone for the Gilroy community as we celebrated the official Opening and Blessing Ceremony of the Research and Creative Learning Centre at Gilroy Catholic College. The ceremony was presided over by the Most Rev Vincent Long Van Nguyen, Bishop of Parramatta. We were honoured to welcome guests from Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD), Reitsma Construction, Stanton Dahl Architects, Area3 Project Management, local and state government representatives, and members of our parent council. Our students represented the College with pride—their reverence and attentiveness during both the liturgy and civil ceremony were commendable. Following the formalities, guests, staff, and student leaders shared in a wonderful lunch, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the planning and execution of today’s event. Your dedication and hard work ensured a memorable and successful celebration for our community.

We recently celebrated Gilroy Catholic College Year 7 students for their outstanding efforts. Several students were presented with awards for 100% attendance in Semester 1 and for achieving a Principal’s Award through their accumulation of merits throughout the year. We are so pleased to recognise the commitment, positivity, and hard work these students show every day. Well done Year 7!

A big thanks to Apprenticeships R Us and REIP for recently partnering with Gilroy to deliver an incredible hands-on automotive experience for our students! Our Year 9 and 10 students got stuck into a practical car care and maintenance session, learning essential skills like checking oil and coolant, changing a tyre, and opening the bonnet with confidence. Special shoutout to Darko G, who earned the title of 'Apprentice of the Day' for his enthusiasm, curiosity, and for being the first to give everything a go! Well done, Darko! Students Collaborate Again with Bupa Dural for “Bupa’s Got Talent” Students from Gilroy Catholic College, in partnership with senior students from St Bernadette’s Primary School, once again had the wonderful opportunity to support Bupa Aged Care in Dural in their national submission for the annual “Bupa’s Got Talent” competition. Last year, this collaborative effort — featuring our talented College Choir, students from St Bernadette’s, and the residents of Bupa Dural — led to an incredible win with their vibrant performance of “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles. Now, the team is back and aiming to defend the title, this time with an energetic performance of the pop classic “Stop” by the Spice Girls. The ongoing partnership between students and residents continues to highlight the joy of music, community spirit, and intergenerational connection. Last week, a number of Gilroy Catholic College Year 9 and 10 students dived into the world of construction and infrastructure with a practical training session packed full of essential skills! From exploring career opportunities in the industry to learning about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), working safely at heights, and getting hands-on with soil compaction and plate compactors, our students gained a solid foundation and valuable insight into possible future careers. A huge thank you to Lawrence Davis Training Group and REIP for expertly guiding our students through this experience and for generously providing their skilled staff and outstanding facility to make it all happen. We truly appreciate your support in helping our students understand and build their futures! A special shout-out to Matthew S. in Year 9, who was awarded ‘Apprentice for the Day’! Students were challenged to approach this experience as if it were a practical job interview, with only one ‘position’ up for grabs at the end of the day. Matthew stood out for his strong initiative, active listening, and willingness to give everything a go. Well done! STEM MAD Showcase at CathWest Innovation College! Three of our STEM teams kicked off the day bright and early, presenting their incredible projects – Helping Paw, Power Peddle, and Road Kill Decomposer – to a panel of judges. After the presentations, students dove into exciting activities, including: Designing game controllers with Makey Makey Exploring ecosystems and climate change through Mindflight7’s Virtual Reality Environmental Science Flight A day full of innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning – well done to all our amazing STEM students!
